Food Safety

 On the Farm:

 Our farm, as well as the Boy’s Farm, our pig supplier, are CQA® registered (Canadian Quality Assurance Program; an On-Farm Food Safety Program for Canadian hog producers) to ensure we raise our pork to high Canadian Standards.  This program assists producers in creating flexible, effective food safety procedure that relate to their specific operation.  CQA® is based on the seven basic principles of the internationally-recognized HACCP (Hazard Analysis Prevention Critical Control Point) model. The program is administered by the Canadian Pork Council and provincial representatives
 
 
At the Feed Mill:
 
Our pigs are fed a “whole”-some diet. Our animal nutritionist recommends and supplies a supplement that compliments our “on-farm” ingredients for optimal health and nutrition in our pigs.  This supplement fortifies our pig’s diets with essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids and is manufactured in a Feed Assure accredited facility which means preventative measures are taken to ensure the highest quality products are delivered to our farm.
FeedAssure™ is a comprehensive feed safety management and certification program developed for the Canadian feed industry through the Animal Nutrition Association of Canada (ANAC) in 1999.   FeedAssure™ is a feed industry-customized HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) program of processes and controls that bring the highest safety standards to the production of animal feed
 
At the Abattoir:
 
Metzger Meats has implemented improvements with their recent expansion to ensure Food Safety, Traceability, Productivity and worker ergonomics. The new production was built in such a way that there is continuous refrigerated flow from start to finish. Ergonomic design was incorporated throughout to eliminate heavy lifting and handling of the meat by people. Every step of production is electronically monitored for cooling, cooking and production to eliminate errors and manipulation of records. New measures and equipment were added to enhance effectiveness of sanitation, product testing and food safety. Their business has adapted (GMP) Good Management Practices and HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Principals and is Certified under the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food. Metzger Meat products are rated AA.
